“Sickness comes on horseback and departs on foot.” ~ Dutch proverb
This past week I’ve gone through 2 boxes of tissues, sneezed so many times in a row I nearly passed out, consumed sour-tasting zinc lozenges, coughed my way through sleepless nights and soothed my sore throat with a daily mug of “Zarbee’s Cold & Cough Tea.”
It was WWIII in full engagement in the top 12″ of my body. And it only got worse day after day after day. On Day 6 there was so much congestion bottled up in my head, I’m sure my brain was as waterlogged as a peat bog and had as much clarity too. That’s when I gave my husband permission to put me out of my misery and bury me in the backyard. He gave me a knowing smile and patted me on the back instead.
Despite succumbing to the plague, I did get outside for a walk every day. Why? Because dogs, like all animals, don’t understand the words “Not today, Rex” or “Go on by yourself while I stay here in the comfort of my PJ’s.” When the dawns comes each day, the canine world knows nothing but joy and energy. Grumpiness, exhaustion and melancholy are not in their vocabulary . . . ever! Winston Churchill once said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” Both he and my dog had good points! Getting outside, even while sick, lifted my pity party spirits and cleared my clogged head.

This changes everything!
Last night we had a fresh snowfall along with plummeting temperatures. It’s the 3rd snow already, perhaps predicting a robust winter! Morning brought a clear blue sky and brilliant sunshine, crowning every blade of grass or common weed with a diamond tiarra.

Snow crystals even turned a deer footprint into a work of art.

Can a muddy puddle be transformed into beauty? I think so.

It’s hard to stay “under the weather” when the weather looks like this!

I’m feeling much better now and am hoping to get the Christmas cards in the mail soon. The decorations are up and we’re making plans for our family gathering later this month. Will you be adding plates to your table over Christmas or sharing someone else’s table this year?

Stay warm. Till next time,
Carolyn
